HOW CAN YOU ENSURE A HYGIENICALLY SAFE CLEANING OF EYEWEAR IN THE CURRENT SITUATION?

Properly cleaning and disinfecting eyewear is exactly the same as washing hands. Our general recommendation to clean glasses with water and some customary detergent only is also the best protection against viruses and bacteria on the frames. Dishwashing detergent has the same function as soap: it destroys the protective fat membrane of the pathogen.

The usual procedure of the optician – namely to additionally clean each pair of glasses in an ultrasonic bath before and after processing – further increases the disinfection effect if a little soap or detergent has been added to the water beforehand. With this method, the optician is ideally equipped for thorough disinfection.

Under no circumstances should disinfectants of any kind be used. These usually contain alcohol, which can damage the surface of some synthetic materials.
